Very Reverend Archdeacon Liam Boyle, died 31st Dec 2015.  Funeral mass on Sun 3rd Jan at 2pm in St Patrick’s Church, Gargory.  Month’s Mind was held Mon 1st Feb at 7.30pm in Gargory.

Archdeacon Boyle was ordained on 22nd June 1947.  He worked for four years in Calabar, Nigeria in a Teacher Training College and teaching in a local school.

In Sept 1951 he was appointed as Spiritual Director in St Colman's College, Newry.  In Oct 1958 he was appointed as Curate in Magheradroll Parish, where he served for 22 years.  He had a long association with the Assumption Grammar School during his time there.

On 25th May 1980 he was appointed as Parish Priest of Lower Drumgooland, a role he held for 29 years.  During that time he also served as Administrator of Upper Drumgooland.

He was made a Canon of the Cathedral Chapter in Oct 1990 and four years later was given the title of Archdeacon.  His service to the people was always of a very high standard.  He was a humble man but was willing to use his many talents in the service of the people.  He continued to reside in Gargory Parochial House until Jul 2013 when he needed to go into full-time care.  He appreciated the visits that he received there.  His death came after three weeks of illness, he did not complain and thankfully did not suffer during this time.

May he now receive the fullness of God’s love, may he be rewarded for his gentleness, his compassion, his service, and his wonderful humour.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.
